On 8 July 2026, UNINVITED. brought together seven emerging designers, 61 looks and more than 300 attendees at STRATA MODUL in Bucharest for an independent fashion show created beyond the industry’s established structures.

The idea was straightforward: when the context you need does not exist, you make one.

UNINVITED. emerged from a reality familiar to many creatives at the beginning of their career: sometimes, the industry is not yet ready to make room for you. Not because your voice is missing, but because access can be slow, restricted or entirely unavailable. In that context, opportunity is no longer something to wait for. It becomes something to imagine, negotiate and build collectively, using the resources at hand and the willingness of people to support one another.

Seven visions. No compromises.

The collections by Dominik-Lénard Csankovszky, Alexia Maria Oproescu, Teodora Nechita, Maria Enache, Raul Rădulescu, Harun Mazlam and Mario Gerald were shaped over three years of study, research and experimentation. Presented together for the first time, they offered a expansive portrait of a new generation of designers: personal, contradictory and impossible to reduce to a single direction.

Religion, identity, childhood, nostalgia, family, memory, gender and transformation appeared on the runway not as broad concepts, but as personal experiences translated into material, silhouette and construction.

Two floors. One mechanism.

For the event, STRATA MODUL became the backstage, while SUBSTRATA housed the runway. The two floors worked as interconnected parts of the same mechanism: upstairs, the preparation, fittings and constant movement of a team of more than 100 people and downstairs, the show presented before an audience of over 200 guests.

The movement between the two spaces revealed more than the finished collections. UNINVITED. brought the final work and the labour behind it into the same frame: designers, models, hair and make-up artists, photographers, videographers, technicians, volunteers and collaborators.

Produced under the umbrella of STRATA MODUL, the project was built through collective self-organisation. Responsibilities, resources and expertise were shared among people working towards the same outcome, without an existing infrastructure promising them visibility.

Here, “uninvited” is not a passive position outside the system. It describes a refusal to wait for someone else to grant access. When the invitation does not arrive, the space can be built from within: through initiative, collaboration and the ability to transform the absence of a context into the beginning of a platform.

This was only the first edition.

UNINVITED. marked the first shared chapter for the seven designers and the first edition of a platform that aims to create new contexts for presentation, collaboration and exchange within Romania’s fashion scene.

“Fashion should be about stories outlined down to the very last detail. Organising an event of this kind turned all of us into aspiring writers, while STRATA MODUL believed in our sartorial pages all the way through to publication. Wordplay aside, the local scene needs as many diverse contexts as possible, and we hope the UNINVITED. statement will grow into a manifesto with a lasting tradition,” says Teodora Nechita, initiator of the UNINVITED. project.

Fashion becomes a visual language through which these energies are presented not as opposites, but as complementary forces. Each piece moves between structure and fluidity, strength and sensitivity, tension and balance.

NOT REALLY EVERYTHING begins with a question: if everything passes, but not quite everything, what remains? Inspired by the designer’s interest in interpreting the world through a childlike lens, the collection invites the viewer into an introspective game of hopscotch around the things that are too beautiful to disappear, regardless of the story of one’s own existence. A confectionery palette, a winged leitmotif and a teaspoon of cake come together in an imagined, more honest world.

THAT’S SO HOT revisits the visual language of the 2000s through sensual silhouettes, vivid colours, prints, platform shoes and bold accessories. The collection embraces the era’s unapologetic excess and filters it through the designer’s personal sense of nostalgia.

O MIE DE PAȘI (A THOUSAND STEPS) is an autobiographical collection about becoming, memory and claiming one’s own truth. Clothing becomes an extension of a personal journey, carrying traces of inner rebellion, formative experiences and encounters that changed the designer’s direction. Existing between garment and wearable art, the pieces introduce a distinctly personal artistic language.

Mario Gerald _ PERSONAL POETRY

PERSONAL POETRY is a visual poem in which free verse takes shape through an eclectic collage of patterns and textures. The collection unravels the complex emotions attached to the most intimate inner flashbacks: a maximalist noise cutting through the silence of a world rendered mute.
