What Ever Happened to Baby A.? is a multidisciplinary fashion project shaped by cinematic influences and translated through photography, styling, set design, and live fashion illustration. Inspired by the 1960s psychological thriller “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?”, the project explores the narrative of an eccentric adult woman unable to detach from her inner child. Through visual composition the project reimagines this unstable identity as a contemporary, playful, and dramatic persona.
The artistic character of the project emerges from the fusion of multiple disciplines: Photography, Styling, Fashion illustration. Styling acts as the primary tool for shaping the different “states” of the character, enhanced by scenographic vision, while the dialogue between photography and illustration maintains a dual material perspective. Illustrations were created live, in tandem with the photoshoot, and later finalized individually, resulting in a varied and highly personal body of work.
The project connects diverse creative professionals and fosters a collaborative environment for artistic experimentation. The visuals reflect a whimsical, theatrical, and nostalgic universe, merging absurdity, costume fantasy, and playful exaggerations.
What Ever Happened to Baby A.? began as a multidisciplinary fashion experiment rooted in the psychological tension and visual eccentricity of the 1960s film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. Through photography, styling, set design, and live fashion illustration, the project constructed the persona of Baby A.: an adult woman suspended between self-performance and childhood memory. Her world - pastel, unsettling, dramatic - became a visual playground where innocence and excess collide.
FROM EDITORIAL TO EXHIBITION
Presented at STRATA MODUL as part of Noaptea Albă a Galeriilor (NAG), the project expands beyond its original editorial framework and unfolds into a full-scale, three-day exhibition. What once existed as staged images now becomes a spatial narrative visitors can move through. The gallery transforms into Baby A.’s labyrinth:- Photography as her mirror
- Illustration as her fractured double
- Set design as her psychological landscape
- Props and costume elements as traces of her performance
- Video projections as the flickering memory she cannot escape
By turning process into installation, the exhibition shifts Baby A. from character to environment. Her world is no longer imagined, it is built.
