Raul Bratu

Raul Georgescu – Stefi is a Romanian artist born in Brașov and currently active in Bucharest. His artistic practice encompasses sculpture, jewelry, and furniture design. He graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree between 2014 and 2019, specializing in Sculpture in Metal. Since then, he has been actively involved in the art scene, exhibiting both in Romania and internationally, including in Bulgaria and France.

At the core of his artistic approach lies a strong emphasis on form and composition, which serve as fundamental elements in every theme he explores. Metal is his primary medium, offering a unique interplay between techne (craftsmanship) and materiality, a relationship that has continuously shaped his artistic motifs and themes. His work delves into the allegorical and alchemical—examining the transmutation of materials and the revelation of hidden essences, initiated from the very first strike of the hammer.

A reflective dimension runs through his artistic philosophy. He views the self as an objective entity, constantly engaged in intentional thought and introspection, unraveling the layers of archetypal concepts. This inquiry is not only theoretical but materializes into sculptural objects imbued with philosophical depth.

Metal, as a material, offers him endless possibilities for expression and conceptualization. His study of transposition techniques explores the contrast between soft, malleable materials—such as clay, which serves as the initial form—and metal, the final transposed medium, shaped through carving and forging, either cold or hot-formed.

His research themes include reflective analysis as a tool for approaching concepts in art, the dynamic between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer, the relationship between space and form in sculpture, time and kinetics, symbolism, and the study of organic forms in nature.
